Who's Afraid of Opera

The Princeton Festival Choral Workshop
Princeton University Chapel, Princeton, NJ
June 21-26, 2010

Maestro Robert Porco, Clinician & Conductor

Robert Porco

"His conducting is so inspiring, his passion for music shows in every gesture. It was a privilege to sing under him.”

Robert Porco has been recognized as one of the leading choral musicians in the United States. For more than 35 years he has been an active conductor of choral and orchestral works, as well as opera. During his career Mr. Porco has conducted or prepared most of the major choral repertoire, ranging from the cantatas of Bach to the 2003 Pulitzer Prize-winning On the Transmigration of Souls performed by the May Festival Chorus in 2008 under the baton of the composer John Adams. (Read more about Maestro Porco here.)

Come enjoy a week of music making and learning on the prestigious Princeton University campus in Princeton, NJ. Our aim is to make great choral music bringing together music lovers from various walks of life. The workshop is open to choral directors, church musicians, music teachers, professional singers, choral conducting students and experienced choral amateurs aged 16 years and over, with good vocal and reading skills. Experience singing in German is desirable for this year’s repertoire.

Here’s what last year’s participants had to say about the experience:

“The most fun I have ever had singing in a choir.”

“This was tremendous, and I am so glad I took a week off from work to participate. I will definitely apply next year.”

“It was an inspiring and unforgettable experience singing that music in that space. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to make music with such a great group of people.”

“The workshop was so well organized and the music making was on a higher level than I anticipated. I learned so much.”
