Richard Tang Yuk

Richard Tang Yuk, Artistic Director and founder of The Princeton Festival, was Chorus Master, Associate Conductor and later Assistant Artistic Director at The Princeton Festival's predecessor, the Opera Festival of New Jersey, where he led over 29 opera productions. Dr. Tang Yuk is a Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music (UK) and holds degrees in conducting from Mannes College of Music and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music.

Dr. Tang Yuk has overseen expansion of artistic programming at The Princeton Festival since its inception and is at the core of its creative planning and vision. The Princeton Festival now offers professional performances in opera, musical theater, dance, chamber music, jazz, recitals, instrumental competitions for young performers, a choral workshop, and a lecture series at various venues in and around Princeton, New Jersey. For The Princeton Festival he has conducted Handel's Ariodante, Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream, La Bohème, Carmen, Madama Butterfly and Sweeney Todd. He will conduct The Rake's Progess this season. He conducted Hercules for the American Handel Society.

He currently serves on the choral faculty at the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he recently conducted the Mozart Requiem and Mendelssohn's Elijah.

From 1994 until 2009 Dr. Tang Yuk was Director of Choral Music and Associate Director of the Program in Musical Performance at Princeton University where he conducted the annual opera and many works in the major choral-orchestral literature to critical acclaim. He led the Princeton Glee Club on 8 overseas concert tours including appearances in Hong Kong, Brazil, Italy and Buenos Aires.

He has appeared as conductor with several orchestras including The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, The Richardson Chamber Players, the Brno Philharmonic in the Czech Republic, The Princeton Festival Orchestra and the Princeton University Orchestra.

He was Conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Trinidad and resident Conductor for Trinidad Opera Company before coming to the United States. He has conducted Messiah for the National Choral Council at Lincoln Center. He is from the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.
