Robert Rodriguez, Piano & Composer
Michael Rodriguez, Trumpet & Composer
The Rodriguez Brothers is co-led by pianist/composer Robert and trumpeter/composer Michael. Born in NYC to Cuban-Ecuadorian parents, Robert and Michael grew up in Miami and, inspired by their drummer father, began musical training at very young ages. Both received full scholarships to study jazz at the University of Miami, but Michael finished his Bachelor's degree at the New School for Jazz Studies in NYC and Robert soon followed to New York.
The Rodriguez Bros. band has recorded three CDs with original compositions influenced by Afro-Cuban, Caribbean and Southern American rhythms, European classical music, and traditional jazz elements ... all the while keeping the modern jazz spirit of improvisation, swing and harmony.
"... standout soloist, the trumpeter Michael Rodriguez, opened the concert [honoring the Cuban Father of Mambo, Israel Cacho López, at Lincoln Center] with a fanfare.... Mr. Rodriguez later played a gorgeously restrained duet with Mr. Henriquez, projecting brightly but softly, with a pristine and gallant sound."
-Nate Chinen, The New York Times (January 22, 2012)
"... sophisticated, rhythmic arrangements, effortlessly interpreted and conveyed by some incredibly gifted players."
-DW Music Company
"These two brothers are the most exciting new musicians I've encountered over the last few years."
-Maitland Jones, JazzNights
